You're reading: Presidential candidate Pabat charges that ‘the votes have already been counted’

Candidate for Ukraine's presidency Oleksandr Pabat says there will not be any lawsuits challenging the returns of the January 17 presidential election because "the votes will be counted very fast, since they have been counted already today. This is obvious," he told reporters in Kyiv on Monday.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the election headquarters of presidential hopeful Yulia Tymoshenko, Serhiy Podhorny, said the presidential campaign would not be buried under lawsuits due to a different reason. According to him, the reason is that the law currently in force has altered the procedure of appeal against the election returns, making it more complicated.

The press secretary of Viktor Yanukovych election’s headquarters, Yuriy Miroshnychenko, in turn, said: "I don’t think that all the candidates will be heeding Mr. Pabat’s advice to refrain from challenging the results in court."
