Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said the Ukrainian currency is now hostage to the presidential election campaign, press secretary Iryna Vannykova said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
“The president is anxious about attempts by certain political forces to force distorted information on society about the situation on the currency market. The authors of these high-flown and unreasonable statements are trying to force people to forget that the currency market is only a reflection of the government’s economic policy. It’s a pity to admit that the national currency has become a hostage of the elections,” the press secretary cited the President.
According to her, the president urged the Ukrainian politicians “to stop weakening the hryvnia with chatter.”
“This is an anti-state policy and a path to economic collapse,” Vannykova said.
