You're reading: Prosecutor’s office announces suspicion to former Ukrainian Defense Minister Yezhel

The Main Military Prosecutor's Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has reported that former Defense Minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Yezhel is suspected of improper performance of his duties during the negotiations in 2011 on the list of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was subject to alienation.

The former minister’s actions are qualified under Part 2 of Article
367 of the Criminal Code (negligence, which caused grave consequences),
according to a report on the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office
posted on Friday.

“As the consequence, this step has enabled the Defense Ministry of
Ukraine to carry out the illegal alienation of two heavy strategic
bombers Tu-95MS to a business entity which resulted in serious
consequences in the form of material damage to the state to the tune of
over UAH 24 million,” the prosecutor’s office explained.

During the pre-trial investigation, the location of aircraft and
their components was established, they were arrested which prevented
their consequent sales to Russia.

The pre-trial investigation into this case continues.

Yezhel was Ukraine’s defense minister from March 2010 until February
2012. In 2013-2015 he served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Minsk.
