Former President Viktor Yushchenko has been summoned to appear at the Prosecutor General's Office on Friday at 1000 a.m. to be questioned "as a victim" in the criminal case involving his poisoning in late 2004, Yushchenko's Our Ukraine Party press office said on Jan. 20.
"This is the first time Yushchenko has been summoned to give testimony as a victim. He previously received letters inviting him to give additional blood samples," the Our Ukraine statement says.
The alleged assassination attempt against Yushchenko, which took place in September 2004, turned around what had been a lackluster presidential campaign and set the stage for the democratic Orange Revolution.
Prosecutors for years have kept Yushchenko’s poisoning case open, but have not identified suspects they can press charges against.
