YASNAYA POLYANA - The Russian industry should aspire to become technologically independent from imported products rather than substituting them entirely, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“There is no need to substitute the whole lot. We need to aspire, on a new basis, for what was in the Soviet Union when we were independent technologically,” Putin said at a Sept. 8 meeting with the Tula region’s public representatives, speaking of the situation in the machinery industry.

In the sphere of industrial development in general and machine-manufacturing in particular “together we must pay more attention and achieve results,” the president said.
