Washington is disappointed with the outcome of the nationwide referendum over EU-Ukraine Association held in the Netherlands on April 6, said U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.

“Of course, we are disappointed with the result. But we respect democratic practices in the Netherlands,” he told the journalists following the outcome of the recent referendum in the Netherlands.

According to the ambassador, the United States believes that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is a “good affair for Ukraine, for Europe, for United States and for their interests as well.”

“Thus, we’ll continue supporting implementation of the Association Agreement, which includes such critically important directions as rule of law and combating corruption,” Pyatt said.

As reported, the turnout at the referendum in the Netherlands was 32.1 percent, where 61.1 percent of those participated in the referendum voted against ratification of the Association Agreement and 38.1 percent backed the ratification.
