The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has voted down the parliament's resolution condemning the statements that negate the contribution of the Ukrainian people into the victory over fascism in World War II.

Only 97 out of 375 MPs registered in the session hall voted for the adoption of this document.

The resolution, in particular, said that the statement of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin that Russia would have won the Great Patriotic War even without Ukraine, negates the role of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in liberating the world from fascism, and downplays the contribution of Ukrainians into the joint victory.

The resolution urged the Russian leadership to respect the tragic pages of Ukraine’s history and to prevent speculation on sensitive topics.
