You're reading: Rada overrides president’s veto on amendments to state budget concerning Euro 2012 financing

The Verkhovna Rada has overridden the president's veto on the amendments to the state budget 2009 in terms of financing the Euro 2012.

A total of 384, out of 409 MPs registered in the session hall, voted
to override the president’s veto at a special meeting of the Verkhovna
Rada on Friday. In particular, 166 MPs of the Party of Regions faction,
152 MPs of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, 20 MPs of the Our Ukraine –
People’s Self Defense bloc, 27 of the Communist Party faction and 19
MPs of the Bloc of Lytvyn voted for this.

President Viktor Yuschenko vetoed on August 3 the state budget
amendments obliging the National Bank of Ukraine to transfer UAH 9.8
billion to the state budget to finance the construction of facilities
ahead of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

Officials from the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and the Regions Party,
the two largest factions in parliament, announced on the same day that
parliament would be able to override presidential veto.
