The European Commission says both Georgia and Ukraine meet all benchmarks for getting visa free travel to the European Union's Schengen zone, possibly allowing the citizens of the two countries to travel to the EU without visas as soon as 2016.

Rinkevics, whose country takes over the EU's rotating presidency in January 2015, told RFE/RL on Dec. 16 that both Ukraine and Georgia had a chance to get visa liberalization at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga in May next year.
