As police gathered evidence on the scene where Ukrainian journalist Oles Buzina was killed, there were competing claims about who was responsible. An advisor to the Ukrainian government alleged that Russia was behind the killing, while Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that Buzina was killed for political reasons because of his pro-Russian views. It was the second high-profile killing in Ukraine in the course of a week, following the death of former MP Oleh Kalashnikov.
