ST. PETERSBURG - About 2,000 people have attended a rally in memory of Boris Nemtsov at the Field of Mars in St. Petersburg, a regional police spokesperson told Interfax on Saturday.

“Around 2,000 people took part in the rally. The event passed without violations,” the spokesperson said.

The rally and a march in memory of the slain opposition politician were held in central St. Petersburg on Saturday. People who wanted to pay tribute to the slain opposition politician gathered outside Gorkovskaya metro station at around 2 p.m. Moscow time. They headed towards the Field of Mars where they began a mourning rally permitted by the city authorities. The rally was attended by Parnas party’s regional co-chairman Andrei Pivovarov and St. Petersburg lawmaker Maxim Reznik.
