You're reading: Regions Party blocks parliament’s rostrum and presidium

Regions Party MPs have blocked the rostrum and presidium of the parliament after MPs voted not to cancel a resolution on holding a vote on bills increasing social standards by a show of hands.

The parliament also refused to support a proposal to postpone the voting on these bills until Thursday’s meeting of parliament.

“The Regions Party’s faction proposes voting today in this hall,
voting for social standards in line with the agenda, as usual, rather
than being involved in clownery,” Regions Party leader Viktor
Yanukovych said from the parliament’s rostrum.

“If you want to disrupt the vote, we won’t allow you to do so. We’ve
been trying to resolve this issue since July. You’ll be obliged to take
this decision, the public will oblige you [to do so],” he said.
