The Regions Party has made stricter demands due to a "sharp worsening of the economic situation, a fall in the hryvnia exchange rate, and a new rise in prices," party leader Viktor Yanukovych has said.
The Regions Party demanded that the minimum wage should be increased to UAH 1,500 and that the pension should rise to UAH 1,300.
“The parliament should take a respective decision on September 1,”
the party’s press service quoted Yanukovych as saying on Monday.
Moreover, the party also demanded that the government report on
budget implementation and the use of money allocated by the
International Monetary Fund.
“The parliament should approve amendments to the budget for 2009. We
should immediately stop the practice of the budget’s manual control,
which is applied by the government of [Prime Minister Yulia]
Tymoshenko,” he said.
The Regions Party also demanded the cancellation of the decision to raise the gas price for the population from September 1.
“This issue should be immediately resolved on the first day of the parliament’s new session,” Yanukovych said.
As reported, the Regions Party was blocking parliament last session
as the question of increasing the minimum wage and the living wage was
not put on the agenda.
