The Regions Party has denied that any agreement has been reached with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament.

“I have seen no documents that confirm this,” the party’s deputy
chairman, Oleksandr Yefremov, said while commenting on reports on the
Internet that the Regions Party had allegedly reached agreement with
Yushchenko on the dissolution of parliament.

He also commented on a statement by Presidential Secretariat Deputy
Head Ihor Popov that the parliament could itself decide on its
dissolution.

“The Verkhovna Rada can take a decision on its dissolution, but this
should be a decision of the Verkhovna Rada. The Verkhovna Rada
currently has no respective majority,” Yefremov said.

He said that the votes of parliamentarians are required to take the
decision, and added that the Regions Party currently has 173 votes.

“However, this is not enough to resolve this issue,” he said.
