The famous battle of an unknown war. On July 11, Ukraine celebrates its victory in the Battle of Konotop. A few years ago that battle was hardly known outside a very narrow circle of historians who deal with armed conflicts and politics of Eastern Europe in the XVII Century. To an average English speaker the name meant nothing.
