A Tu-154 aircraft operated by the Rossiya Airline bound for St. Petersburg, Russia, and carrying ninety-two passengers from Simferopol, made an emergency landing on July 4 in Simferopol , a government statement confirms.
At 2:02 p.m., the plane departed from the Simferopol airport towards St Petersburg. But during the first minutes of flight, the pilots noticed that a gear leg of the Tu-154 refused to fold. Aircraft commander Sergei Bogatov decided not to continue the flight towards St. Petersburg. He circled Simferopol airport for 90 minutes to exhaust most of the fuel on board and performed an emergency landing at Simferopol airport.
Before the landing, the runway was foamed to prevent the plane from setting on fire. At 4:06 p.m., the plane successfully landed. The aircraft remained intact, passengers and crewmembers unharmed.
