An exchange of two Russians implicated in the May 2, 2014 events in Odesa for two Ukrainian citizens who are now in Russia is possible, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) Chief Vasyl Hrytsak has said.
“We are working on preparing this exchange,” he told a press briefing in Odesa on June 10, declining to give further details.
Hrytsak added that 11 citizens of Ukraine are now held in Russia and the possibility of their exchange is being considered.
According to earlier reports, Viktor Medvedchuk, representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group and leader of the organization Ukrainian Choice, earlier said two Russians implicated in the events in Odesa in May 2014 may be exchanged for two Ukrainian citizens, Yuriy Soloshenko and Hennadiy Afanasyev, in the near future.
Russian citizens Evgeniy Mefedov and Maxim Sakaulov, who stand accused in the events that occurred in Odesa on May 2, 2014 (in some of the events in Hretska Square, where 48 people were killed and over 200 were injured) are now in a detention facility in Odesa.
