You're reading: SBU opens case against Ukrposhta deputy director following audit of Tymoshenko’s government

The main investigative department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has opened a criminal case against a deputy director general of the Ukrainian Ukrposhta state postal enterprise on suspicion of abuse of office, the SBU press center reported on Tuesday.

The investigation established that as a result of the violation of requirements of the current legislation during the conclusion of an agreement on postal services in September 2009, the state incurred losses of over UAH 4 million. The SBU has not reported the official’s name.

A criminal case was opened on the materials of international audit organizations that uncovered a range of violations during checks of the legality of the use of budget funds by the Ukrainian government in 2008-2009 and in the first quarter of 2010.

The case against the Ukrposhta official was opened as part of the investigation conducted by the SBU’s main investigative department into another criminal case opened against officials of the Ukrainian State Committee for Land Resources and two employees of limited liability companies on the suspicion of the seizure of property, and state funds of UAH 3.740 million allocated from the Stabilization Fund to produce and deliver reports to Ukrainian citizens about the free issuance of state acts on the ownership rights to land plots.

The case has been opened under part three of Article 364 of the Criminal Code (the abuse of office or powers).

A pretrial investigation is being carried out.
