You're reading: Sevastopol mayor increases utility tariffs

The chairman of Sevastopol city state administration, Serhiy Kunitsyn, as civil defense head, has signed a resolution on measures not to allow a failure in work of the municipal and housing economy in providing adequate conditions for the public in the city in the autumn-winter 2009-2010 period, which foresees a rise in utility tariffs for households.

The press service of Sevastopol city state administration told
Interfax-Ukraine that Kunitsyn announced this at a meeting held on
Monday.

“The administration at the meeting said that the situation in the
municipal and housing economy is extraordinary. There are no funds for
subsidies for municipal companies. UAH 68 million was planned. We’ve
allocated them to companies, but the sum required is UAH 311 million.
We’ve used up all opportunities to take credits. The only thing left is
to increase tariffs, but the city council is not increasing them,” he
said.

The resolution foresees the introduction of economically justifiable
housing tariffs from October 1, 2009, water supply and sewage tariffs
for households – from October 1, 2009 and heat supply and hot water
supply tariffs for households from November 1, 2009.

Kunitsyn instructed the chief municipal and housing economy department and municipal companies to finally set the new tariffs.
