Ukrainian authorities say they are investigating allegations of sexual abuse of minors at a famed children's recreation camp on the Crimean peninsula.

Prosecutor’s spokesman Yuriy Boichenko said Tuesday that law enforcement officers have arrested a man suspected of abusing two minors at the prestigious Artek camp on the Black Sea shore. Boichenko would not elaborate.

An opposition lawmaker, Vadym Kolesnichenko, claimed the case involves allegations against senior government officials. He said the alleged victims were underaged siblings.

Artek called the statement a lie aimed at discrediting the camp. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s office declined immediate comment, saying she was traveling.
