The Ukrainian president's commissioner for international energy security, Bohdan Sokolovsky, has said that Ukraine is interested in resuming direct supplies of gas from Turkmenistan and hopes that upcoming talks on this issue will be successful.
“The position of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is very
concrete – we are interested in resuming direct [gas] supplies from
Turkmenistan taking into account the interests of all third countries,
apparently transiting countries,” he told Ukrainian journalists in
Ashgabat.
Sokolovsky said that a number of talks had been held ahead of the
Ukrainian president’s official visit to Turkmenistan, including at the
Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan
and gas extracting companies.
He said that the upcoming talks on Ukraine-Turkmenistan cooperation in the gas sector should be successful.
