You're reading: Speaker closes Rada’s special meeting, new session to open on Sept. 1

A special meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, closed on Friday.

This day, the lawmakers overturned President Viktor Yuschenko’s veto on the law on amendments to the state budget for 2009 concerning the financing of the preparations for holding the Euro 2012 European Championship in Ukraine, as well as the veto on the law on amendments to the presidential elections’ legislation.

While closing the meeting, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn said that the parliament’s next session will open on September 1. On August 31, a meeting of the conciliatory council of parliamentary factions and committees will be held.
