The situation with the inappropriate use of budget funds in Ukraine is critical, but the government denies all of the accusations made in this connection, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

“According to the latest report by the Accounting Chamber, the situation with the inappropriate use of budget funds is terrible,” according to the parliament’s Web site, with reference to the speaker’s statement made during his working visit to Crimea on Wednesday.

“We have to return public control,” Lytvyn said.

Speaking about the situation with a rise in pensions, Lytvyn said that limitations on the highest level of pensions could have released UAH 6 billion in order to increase minimum pensions.

“I repeatedly proposed that MPs adopt a law that would foresee limitations on the highest level of pensions of UAH 10,000, while some high-ranking officials receive more. I’m sure that we have to adjust the country’s pension system that could have resulted in the release of an additional UAH 6 billion,” he said.
