Insulting slogans were written in black paint above the entrance to the Melitopol Jewish community building, a source at the Federation of CIS Jewish Communities told Interfax-Religion portal (www.interfax-religion.ru) on Monday.
“Members of the community and the Hesed Velvele charity foundation
saw the writing and a swastika. They learned later that similar
pictures were painted in other Melitopol areas with a circle,” he said.
Heseeda Jewish club head Svetlana Marshak said the city had always
been proud of peaceful co-existence of about one hundred nationalities.
Other nationalities of Melitopol have always respected the Jewish
community, and foreign visitors have always admired the tolerance of
city residents to Jews.
“The Jewish community and Hesed Velvele appealed to the chief of the
city department of the Ukrainian Security Service to investigate the
incident and find the culprits,” the source said.
