The Kremlin is rattled by the unfolding crisis in Ukraine. If President Viktor Yanukovych is toppled, it will be an embarrassing sign that Russia is unable to shield its allies and if that were to coincide with the opening of the Sochi Olympics next week, President Vladimir Putin's most extravagant propaganda venture, the humiliation would be complete.
Some might even see it as payback for the way in which Russia marched into Georgia under cover of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
