Sergiy Tigipko, a famous Ukrainian banker who has declared his intention to run for president, has described as a paradox the fact that the Ukrainian economy's revival is leading to the collapse of the national budget.
“The tragic paradox is that reviving exports and the Ukrainian
economy on the whole leads to the collapse of the national budget. This
is a result of the perverted tax policy of the state,” Tigipko’s press
service said.
According to Tigipko, two anti-records have been set in the budget
system. First of all, tax incomes to the state treasury were about UAH
1.5 billion, the politician said.
“Representatives of the tax system haven’t gathered such a small amount this millennium,” he said.
“Secondly, the sum of VAT compensation – UAH 7.1 billion – has for
the first time exceeded the sum of import VAT. As a result, incomes to
the state treasury dropped by 40% compared to the rates of September
2008. The state budget is on the verge of collapse,” Tigipko said.
According to him, “ineffective politicians, as well as the economic crisis” could be to blame for this situation.
However, Tigipko said “defects in the tax system” were the main reasons for this situation.
