Ukrainian Vice Premier and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has said it is necessary to intensify the social dialog between the executive branch and trade unions.

"The notion of social dialog is rather new, and we should study and develop it," he said at a meeting of the council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine in Kyiv on Thursday.

The vice premier proposed that representatives of the trade unions meet with representatives of various ministries and departments on March 10 at 11.00.

Head of the Trade Unions Federation Vasyl Khara at the council meeting criticized the government and the executive branch for refusing to cooperate with social partners, in particular, with the trade unions.

He said that trade unions had been completely excluded from the process of agreeing socially important draft laws, such as the national budget for 2011 and on pension reform.

Khara called on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to change its attitude towards its social partners.
