There is no systemic work being done in Ukraine on the development of the agricultural sector, potential presidential candidates Sergiy Tigipko has said.

“Ukraine has some of the best conditions for the development of
agriculture, but if you analyze it seriously, nothing is being done to
develop this sector,” Tigipko said at a meeting with residents of
Obukhiv on Monday.

According to him, there is no systemic work in the country in this
direction, and the necessary changes are not implemented to support
this sphere.

“Several things should be done to develop agriculture,” Tigipko said.

The politician said that first of all, the state should purchase grain from agricultural producers.

Moreover, certain mechanisms of state participation in this process should exist to help grain producers.

“Secondly, every time the harvest or sowing [campaign] begins, the price of fuel immediately rises,” Tigipko said.

According to him, oil traders are sure that farmers can do nothing
about this, as they need fuel. Thus, oil traders try to earn extra
money by raising prices.

Tigipko also added that the mechanism of credits issuing to agricultural producers should be improved.
