Sergiy Tigipko, a famous Ukrainian banker who has declared his intention to run for president, has said that the current government forces Ukrainian citizens to look for jobs abroad, the press service of the banker reported on Monday.
“Ukrainians go to Europe not for ‘long Euros’ – they go there because of the unemployment that the current government has failed to cope with. Where are those five million new jobs [one of the points of the election campaign of President Viktor Yushchenko] promised by Viktor Yushchenko? Where is the anti crisis program on stimulating employment? We will not receive answers to these questions from the current president and the government,” the press service citied Tigipko.
The banker said that the government is also helpless concerning Ukrainians working abroad.
“The European Union only promises quotas for legal employment and basic guarantees of social protection for Ukrainian workers. Instead of cherishing unrealizable plans about political integration with EU, the Ukrainian government should insist on at least the elementary observation of the humanitarian rights of our citizens. Millions of Ukrainians working outside their native country regularly receive reminders that it would be not bad to pay taxes and pension payments at home. Thus, the government recognizes them as citizens, but is interested only in their money, not in their problems,” Tigipko said.
