Ukrainian banker Serhiy Tihipko who has announced plans to run for presidency, has criticized the financial maintenance of the Ukrainian army.

“The state has no right to treat the army in such a way,” he said when attending the tank brigade in the settlement of Honcharivske in Chernihiv region on Saturday.

According to Tihipko, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s budget is about UAH 11 billion, including UAH 7 billion set aside in the budget’s general fund and UAH 4 billion that the army should earn by selling its redundant property.

“The army should be engaged in [enhancing] military efficiency, train the youth for protecting the homeland, rather than earn a living,” he said while addressing the servicemen of the tank brigade and residents of Honcharivske.
