Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the law that bans operation of gambling businesses, the presidential veto on which the parliament overrode on Thursday, has spiritual and moral benefits for life in Ukraine.
The media relations department of the Cabinet of Ministers’ secretariat announced this in a statement.
“A final ‘full stop’ was put to gambling businesses in Ukraine today. It will not exist in Ukraine. Ukraine will live calmly, spiritually, and morally. And I am convinced that this will benefit the people of Ukraine,” Tymoshenko said.
According to her, the overriding of the presidential veto on the law is a good and significant event.
“Unity in the parliament and unity among all political forces provided an opportunity to override the presidential veto – a corrupt veto – and allow the country to live calmly without mafia-controlled gambling businesses” Tymoshenko said.
In addition, Tymoshenko said that she viewed the gambling business and the narcotic business in the same way.
According to Tymoshenko, she always achieves any goal she sets by overcoming all obstacles.
She promised that this would always be the case.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament overrode President Viktor Yuschenko’s veto on the law entitled “On Banning Gambling Businesses in Ukraine,” which prohibits operation of gambling businesses in population centers, on June 11.
Yushchenko vetoed the law on June 4.
Yushchenko argued that this law violates several provisions of the Constitution and that it is a populist law that is poorly considered and will result in the loss of about 200,000 jobs.
The parliament banned operation of gambling businesses within population centers on May 15.
