Deal seen as way to resume gas flow to Europe
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso believe that a technical agreement should be urgently signed to restore natural gas transit to the European Union in full volume, the Ukrainian government’s press service reported.
Tymoshenko said that Ukraine presented this project to the European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and to the Russian side.
She also briefed Barroso about the situation development and Ukraine’s steps aimed at the soonest resumption of Russian gas transit to European customers.
Tymoshenko also briefed Barroso on a telephone conversation she had with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and said the two countries’ governments are to hold talks in Moscow on Saturday under an agreement she and Putin had reached.
