The Central Election Commission has registered Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko as a presidential candidate.
The decision to register Tymoshenko as the candidate was supported unanimously by 15 members of the Central Election Commission present at the meeting.
The Central Election Commission has established that the application submitted by Yulia Tymoshenko and the package of other documents required to register her as the presidential candidate are formalized in compliance with the requirements of the Ukrainian legislation.
The Central Election Commission has also registered Parliamentary Deputy Volodymyr Pylypenko from the faction of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko as Tymoshenko’s representative at the Central Election Commission.
On registration, Yulia Tymoshenko received the certificate of the presidential candidate.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on October 28 asked the Central Election Commission register her as a presidential candidate and submitted her application for registration and a package of other required documents.
On October 24, the congress of the Batkivschyna Party nominated Yulia Tymoshenko, who leads the party, for presidential candidate.
The presidential election campaign officially started in Ukraine on October 19.
The Verkhovna Rada has set the first tour of the presidential elections for 17 January 2010.
