Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has said she supports a creation of alternatives to the current markets in a form of special places for the wholesale and retail trade.

“Civilized, special places for the wholesale and retail trade, which are correctly equipped and where the system of ownership is correctly established, should be an alternative to the current markets,” Tymoshenko said in Kyiv on Tuesday at a working meeting with entrepreneurs working at the markets of Ukraine.

“This doesn’t mean that it is necessary to close the markets. Let them [the markets] exist and develop, until a reasonable alternative is created… We should normalize what is taking place on the current markets at present, and create alternative special places,” Tymoshenko said.

At the same time she didn’t exclude the possibility that groups of people working at these special places could then become their owners.

The prime minister said that the state could give state guarantees to finance the creation of such trade places.
