The Ukrainian government is not planning to support the Regions Party's initiative to increase the minimum wage and the living wage, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.
“This [demand by the Regions Party to increase social benefits] is a purely election program where absolutely empty ideas that are not financially secured are being used to play with the feelings of people and their hopes. Of course, the government cannot take such risks,” she said in an interview with the ICTV channel, which was broadcast on Sunday.
“The Regions Party acts simply – the worse, the better, and disrupts the Verkhovna Rada’s work and the [country’s] financial system to get additional points during the presidential election,” Tymoshenko said.
She also said that there were no funds in the state budget required to meet the Regions Party’s demands.
As reported, the Regions Party blocked the parliament for a long time, demanding that the living wage and the minimum wage be increased.
