Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that Russian politicians are deliberately escalating tension with statements about the possible application of fines by Russian gas company OJSC Gazprom against National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy for consuming less gas than envisaged in the contract.
She said this at apress conference in Lutsk on Tuesday.
“I regret to say that political escalation continues building up
around the gas issue, and this [escalation] has absolutely no grounds,”
Tymoshenko said.
At the same time, she said she is confident that Russia will not apply any sanctions against Ukraine.
“We have firm agreements with Russian Premier Vladimir Putin, and we
have agreed that at the end of the year when we formalize the results
of this year, we will sign all the necessary papers to provide
documentary support for this,” she said when asked when the documents
about Russia’s agreement not to impose fines on Ukraine for
under-consumption of gas would be signed.
