Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has said she supports the decentralization of power via amending the constitution.

“Today the executive power has been removed from the local
authorities. This is absolutely wrong,” Tymoshenko said at the Lviv
economic forum in Truskavets (Lviv region) on Friday.

According to the premier, central government will gradually transfer
powers to local government and, thus, it will be responsible only for
the delegation of authorities.

“The executive structures should be in partnership with the local
authorities, and I think that amendments to the constitution could
assist in this – that’s why we are working on this,” she added.

At the same time, according to Tymoshenko, the centralization of
financing is needed. The prime minister said that the corresponding
amendments were already set out in the new draft of the Budget Code and
that she hopes that they will come into force starting next year.
