Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the right to entrap potentially corrupt officials should be given to the law enforcement agencies, moreover, officials and members of their families should declare their expenses.
“I support the idea when our law enforcement agencies, which are
correspondingly empowered, would have the right to make the so-called
‘provocation’ of a bribe,” she said at the Lviv economic forum in
Truskavets (Lviv region) on October 2.
According to the premier, in this way the law enforcement agencies would be able to flush out corrupt officials.
Moreover, Tymoshenko said that the norm that foresees the need for a
declaration of the expenses of officials should be fixed in the law.
“The declaration of expenses is also good,” she said and than added
that it would be more effective if officials declare the expenses of
members of their families, as well.
At the same time, according to Tymoshenko, such legislation hasn’t been adopted by the parliaments over 18 years.
She said that the government approved relevant draft laws, but their
further consideration in the Verkhovna Rada has always been prevented.
