Leader of the BYT (the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko), Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko is intending to include more representatives from the education sector, including school directors, into voting lists.

“I am planning to lobby for including school directors and educators [into voting lists] during the next parliamentary and local government elections,” Tymoshenko said, speaking at an extraordinary government meeting on the issues of education in Kyiv on Monday.

According to Tymoshenko, the current parliament poorly represents Ukraine’s education sector and this affects the lobbying of educators’ interests in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament.

“Certain branches and sectors have powerful lobbies. And there are only three to four lobbyists who represent the spheres of education and health care in parliament. Therefore some sectors lack financing, while others have excessive funding,” she said.
