Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she hopes that the decisions on forestry taken by the government at a meeting on Wednesday, September 16, will help tackle illegal logging more effectively.
“We, along with the leadership of the State Forestry Committee and
the whole team of foresters, yesterday took key decisions in order to
protect forestland,” she said during her visit to a forest division in
Radomyshl district, Zhytomyr region, on Thursday.
“This is the first decision taken over the years of [Ukraine’s]
independence in which foresters were given special rights,
opportunities and tools to more effectively protect forestland from any
unauthorized logging or possible fires,” Tymoshenko said.
