You're reading: UEFA experts checking reconstruction of Olympiysky National Sports Complex

UEFA experts led by Head of Stadium Security Marc Timmer on Monday checked the progress made in constructing the stadium in Kyiv where the final of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship is to be hosted.

Ukrainian Minister for Family, Youth and Sports Yuriy Pavlenko, who
accompanied the UEFA experts, said: “Today, full-scale work according
to the adopted project is being carried out. About one thousand workers
and almost 400 technicians and engineers are working at the building
site, and 162 pieces of building equipment are being used,” the press
service of the minister for family, youth and sports reported, citing
the minister.

According to the minister, the first circle of stands is 90% complete, and only the seats are left to be installed.

Pavlenko said the foundations of the upper circle of stands and the
northern entrance to a sport arena have been strengthened. Work on
installing a frame that will support the roof above the stands and
building a reinforced-concrete trestle platform and by-pass highway is
being carried out.

According to the minister, the fun zone and the VIP-zone are being
constructed and repair work on the upper circles of stands are being
carried out.

The UEFA experts received all of the necessary information
concerning the reconstruction of the Olympiysky National Sports
Complex, the ministry press service said.

As reported, UEFA experts led by Head of Stadium Security Marc
Timmer are visiting Ukraine from September 20-23. During their visit,
they will check the progress made in the preparation of Ukraine’s
stadiums ahead of Euro 2012 as part of the regular monitoring process.
