Ukraine is not ready for Euro 2012 yet but UEFA is satisfied with its progress. Ukrainian candidate cities for hosting chanpionship will be ready by November 30, says Surkis. Still the main problem is the lack of hotel rooms.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is satisfied with the level of Ukraine’s preparation for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship finals.
UEFA representative and Euro 2012 director Martin Kallen announced this at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
“Presently we are satisfied with the progress made by Ukraine,” he said.
As reported, the UEFA executive committee at a meeting on December 11-12, 2009 will take a final decision which cities will host the Euro 2012 finals in Ukraine.
Martin Kallen said that the main problem of the Ukrainian cities competing for hosting the Euro 2012 – Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Kyiv – is the lack of hotel rooms.
Moreover, according to Kallen, Kyiv should also solve issues related to public transportation from Boryspil Airport, which is outside Kyiv, to the city’s downtown.
President of the Football Federation of Ukraine Hryhoriy Surkis says the Ukrainian candidate cities for hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship finals will be ready for consideration by the UEFA Executive Committee by November 30.
“I could say that by November 30 this year we’ll be able to meet the criteria which will be considered by UEFA and which will allow it to decide that the format of the tournament should be four by four [four Ukrainian and four Polish hosing cities],” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Surkis is satisfied with the pace of financing by the Ukrainian government of investment projects for the development of Ukrainian cities’ infrastructure as part of preparation for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship finals.
“I can say today that in spite of the crisis that has worsened the financial situation in the country we jointly with the government are finding solutions to the problems related to the large-scale financing of all the projects foreseen in the budget for investing in the cities’ infrastructure,” he said.
