You're reading: UkrAgroConsult: Ukraine has started sowing of winter crops for 2014 harvest

According to the official statement made by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Ukrainian agrarian companies have started sowing of winter crops for 2014. As of August 14, 2013 winter rapeseed was planted on 61 thousand hectares, which is 7% of government forecast made earlier (924 thousand hectares). There is 1.7 million of seeds available for sowing campaign, which is 100% of the previously forecasted volume. Sown area for grains is expected to decrease by 1.2% to 8.1 million hectares.  

 Due to favorable weather conditions, this year harvest will ensure high level of grain stocks, which subsequently leads to high supply of the agricultural commodities, which in turn leads to lower sown areas necessary.
