You're reading: Ukraine asking European Union to provide technical gas

Kyiv has proposed to the European Union that part of its Russian gas supplies be used as technical gas to ensure gas transit via Ukraine's gas transportation system to European consumers.

“Ukraine proposes considering the possible provision of natural gas for the technical needs of its gas transportation system from the volume of Russian natural gas destined for European consumers, with the further registration of documents,” reads a letter by Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan to EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs made available to Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

As reported, Piebalgs and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Martin Riman earlier sent letters to the Russian and Ukrainian energy ministers demanding the immediate resumption of all of the transit gas flows in full.

Kyiv, in turn, accused Moscow of its reluctance to restore gas transit in full, describing Russia’s proposed test on the partial pumping of gas as technically unrealizable and provocative.
