Minsk - The Contact Group has begun a meeting over a peaceful resolution of the crisis in east Ukraine.

The meeting will focus on the introduction of a ceasefire by both parties to the conflict, prisoner exchange in the “all for all” format, and stronger monitoring by the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) of the situation in the region, an Interfax correspondent said.

It is also expected that the meeting attendees could agree a plan for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The meeting is attended by: Ukraine’s second president Leonid Kuchma, Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, OSCE Special Representative Heidi Tagliavini, leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Alexander Zakharchenko, DPR deputy prime minister Andriy Purhin and leader of the Luhansk People’s Republic Ihor Plotnitsky.
