Behind the current Ukrainian-Russian gas row is the political goal of "changing the status of the Ukrainian gas transmission system," Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko told the Ukrainian and Russian services of the British Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday.
Yuschenko confirmed that Ukraine guarantees resuming the transit of Russian gas to Europe as soon as Russia provides enough gas for this.
