You're reading: Ukraine registers 388,000 first-year pupils and 520,000 freshmen

A total of 388,000 Ukrainian children became first-year pupils on September 1, while 520,000 young Ukrainians became freshmen at institutes and universities.

Over 20,000 educational institutions, including over 13,000 located
in villages, opened their doors on Tuesday. A total of 4.3 million
schoolchildren, including 388,000 first-year pupils, began their
studies, which is 9,000 more than last year (379,000 in 2008).

Moreover, 18 new schools were commissioned this academic year.

Nearly 486,000 teachers are working at the country’s schools.
