Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and CEO of Euronews Channel Philippe Cayla have discussed prospects for further cooperation as a short Ukrainian language version of Euronews was established on Ukraine's First National Channel.
The National Television Company of Ukraine and Euronews on Friday
signed an agreement to start broadcasts of 15-minute news bulletins on
the First National Channel from Monday to Friday, the presidential
press service reported.
Yuschenko praised the implementation of such an initiative.
“You are doing a great deed through this project on the consolidation of Europe and Ukraine’s integration with Europe,” he said.
Yuschenko described a new project as one of the “small pages in our European integration.”
Cayla, in turn, stressed the importance of the establishment of a Ukrainian language version of Euronews in Ukraine.
“I’m very glad that the channel will at last be present in Ukraine. I feel as at home in Ukraine as [I do] in Europe,” he said.
Cayla said that the next step in cooperation should be work on establishing a full Ukrainian language version of Euronews.
He also agreed with Yuschenko that Euronews is a “good tool for
Ukraine’s integration with Europe,” an added that the project would
help Europeans be better informed about Ukraine.
