Ukraine is planning to check reports of illegal actions by Czech diplomats regarding the issuance of visas to Ukrainian citizens.
“As far as these reports are concerned, we’ll definitely check
them,” the chairman of the Presidential Secretariat’s main service for
international cooperation, Mykola Tochytsky, said at a briefing on
Wednesday.
He said that the concerned Czech agencies should check on the
legality of the activities of Czech diplomats. However, he said that
Ukraine had already stated it was against the involvement of any
mediators in the issuance of visas, as this brings about the “creation
of nontransparent schemes.”
The media reported that Czech anti-corruption police officers are
checking the legality of actions by employees of the Czech Embassy in
Kyiv and the Czech Consulate General in Lviv during the issuance of
visas to Ukrainians. Czech Ambassador to Ukraine Jaroslav Basta and
Czech Consul General in Lviv Ladislav Hradil are principle subjects of
the investigation.
