You're reading: Ukraine, Vietnam considering creation of free trade area

The Ukrainian and Vietnamese premiers have discussed the possibility of forming a free trade area between their states.

"During our talks today we tackled the possibility of forming a free trade area," Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov said during a joint with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to Azarov, the sides discussed the procedures necessary for the simplification of mutual trade.

The premiers also agreed to step up work of an inter-governmental commission.

In addition, the Ukrainian and Vietnamese premiers supported the creation of joint ventures in the energy and agriculture spheres, as well as for mineral production.

In turn, the premier of Vietnam said that relations between the countries are developing, although they still do not live up to their full potential. He also said that trade between Ukraine and Vietnam should double in 2012.

The Vietnamese premier added that during the talks they agreed to sign an intergovernmental protocol on phyto-sanitary controls and an agreement on quality conformance in the near future.
